Empowering practices since 1999.

Why do we exist?

QPA exists to empower and support general practices to provide the highest quality care.  We partner with practices to deliver better outcomes for patients that shape the future of general practice through quality assurance.

Our Vision

Beyond accreditation – where a culture of quality is embedded in everything we do every day.

Our Mission

Striving for quality assurance today, for a better general practice tomorrow.

Our Values

Integrity

Ensuring that all accreditation decisions meet the intent of the relevant standards, are transparent, impartial, consistent and applied without undue or inappropriate influence.

Innovation

Continuing to develop our program and use IT tools to better support practices and bring more efficiency.

Community & Patient Focus

Ensuring that accreditation remains about patients and the community in providing assurance as to the safety and quality of general practice services.

Responsiveness

Actively listening to consumers and practices and showing tactical empathy.

Evidence-based

Continuing to strive for a strong evidence base in assessing our program development and the services we provide.

Respect for our People

Recognising that our people are in the best position to inform and guide policy and operations. We value and listen to each other and actively engage in supporting their professional and personal development.

Environmental Concern

We understand the need for individual action in regard to climate change and the environment and are striving to be a carbon neutral enterprise.

Cementing our commitment to quality

Quality is at the core of everything we do. QPA is accredited by globally recognised International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) to Guidelines and Standards for External Evaluation Organisations.

Our corporate social commitment and responsibility extends beyond general practice to our own local rural community of Gundagai, New South Wales, where QPA is proudly operated from.

Championing community connections

Through the many fundraising and awareness initiatives that our team passionately support, we aim to build and strengthen connections and pride especially within our own local community. We support causes that raise awareness and fund crucial medical research that are particularly close to our heart and that benefits members of the community who are in need.  In 2024, our small team of QPA head office staff raised over $1300 for local charities including Gundagai’s own shared, assisted-living home.

Environmental sustainability

Committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operators, we focus on sustainable business practices and aim to continually reduce our carbon footprint.

Our 20+ year history all started with providing general practices with a choice of certification provider.

Since our inception in 1999, we have provided certification services that empower general practices to deliver excellence to their patients and communities.

With National coverage, we are the only provider to specialise solely in certifying general practices. We live and breathe general practice and have a deep appreciation of what is it like to run a practice.

QPA is proudly based in rural NSW and understand the reality of all walks of life in Australia, across metropolitan, regional, rural and remote regions.

We’re passionate supporters of general practice and are well-known and active advocates for the profession.

Dr Paul Mara

Managing Director

“At QPA, we value general practice, because we are GPs. We understand how hard it is to be a GP. One minute you can be seeing a child with a sore throat, the next managing a patient with complex chronic disease.  As GPs, we understand general practice isn’t just about our patient’s problems but about their stories, where and how they live. We make a difference to people’s lives in small or large steps every day.  At QPA, we don’t just accredit general practices: we understand them.”

“Myhealth Medical Centres have been using QPA for the last 6 years.”

“No other agency makes the same effort to really engage and understand our practices.”

“As an Area Manager I am involved in a lot of onsite accreditation visits and no other accreditation provider is dedicated to giving you a real assessment of your practice against the standards.”

Leonie Dewey | Myhealth Medical Centres

“QPA is not only committed to quality but have been commitment to rural and remote practices for more than 20 years.”

“They are a supportive accrediting body of general practices, ensuring a complete and comprehensive circle of quality care is provided to all patients.”

– Taroom Doctors Surgery

“I’ve been involved with QPA for over 20 years as founder, director, surveyor, mentor and practice owner.”

“No other accreditation provider is as committed to excellence or your practice.”

Tony Andrew | Chair of the QPA Advisory Board

“I’ve been a surveyor for QPA for 20 years. No other accreditation provider is as dedicated to giving you a real assessment of your practice against the standards.”

“We are committed to making your practice the best by providing a comprehensive report which also outlines opportunities for improvement.”

Our point of difference

At QPA, we provide certification processes that are effective and efficient. We make certification beneficial for practices by delivering engaging, constructive and productive feedback that ultimately empowers general practices to deliver the best patient outcomes. We strongly believe in the importance of ongoing quality improvement, because we believe this delivers high standards and confidence. Our certification processes can be challenging, but they ultimately result in better practice outcomes, because we empower practices with tools and support. QPA surveyors are true general practice specialists; all have been a GP or a Practice Manager themselves. This means that they understand the realities of running a general practice and provide feedback and reporting that is grounded in practical experience.
